About this destination

Chile's wine country is strung along 1,000 km of the central valley, sheltered by the Andes to the east and cooled by the Pacific to the west. Each valley has its own personality: Aconcagua for bold Cabernets, Casablanca for elegant Sauvignon Blancs, Maipo for the classic Cabernets near Santiago, Colchagua for full-bodied Carménères, and Maule for old-vine Carignan and País. A campervan is the perfect way to move between them — sleep beside the vines, visit small family bodegas that don't feature in any guidebook, and eat long lunches at winery restaurants.

Must-see stops

1

Valle de Colchagua

Chile's most celebrated red wine valley. Santa Cruz is the hub — the Colchagua Museum is world-class, and the wineries (Montes, Lapostolle, Viu Manent) are spectacular.

2

Valle de Casablanca

The cool-climate valley between Santiago and Valparaíso, famous for Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Compact enough to visit 3–4 wineries in a day.

3

Valle del Maule

Chile's largest wine valley and its most authentic — old-vine Carignan and País grown by small farmers, in a landscape that feels untouched by tourism.

4

Valle de Aconcagua

A narrow, dramatic valley running east toward the Andes, producing powerful Cabernet Sauvignon. Errázuriz is the standout estate.
